The Yankees have been busy ahead of Tuesday's 6 p.m. ET Trade Deadline, acquiring right-handed starter Frankie Montas and right-handed reliever Lou Trivino from the Athletics on Monday.• MLB Network, MLB.com, MLB App, 3-7 p.m. ET Tues.New York gave Oakland four Minor Leaguers for Montas and Trevino: Ken Waldichuk (the club's No. 5 prospect), Luis Medina, JP Sears, and Cooper Bowman (No. 21).

Waldichuk was the sole Oakland prospect placed in MLB Pipeline's Top 100. The Yankees retained their top four prospects according MLB Pipeline: shortstops Anthony Volpe and Oswald Peraza, outfielder Jasson Domnguez, and catcher Austin Wells.The Yankees acquired right-handed reliever Scott Effross from the Cubs for right-hander Hayden Wesneski.

After the Reds moved right-hander Luis Castillo to the Mariners on Saturday, Montas was the best starting pitcher left on the trade market, despite right shoulder soreness before the All-Star break. The acquisitions of Montas, Trivino, and Effross should help the Red Sox improve on the American League's best record (70-34). Montas, 29, has a 4.09 ERA in 19 Oakland starts. He surrendered 44 runs (37 earned) and 12 homers in 104 2/3 innings. Montas has 109 strikeouts and 28 walks this season. He's paid $5.05 million. After 2023, he may become a free agent.The right-hander has a lifetime 3.73 ERA over seven seasons. Last year, he went 13-9 with a 3.37 ERA and 207 strikeouts in 187 innings.“He's got everything a top-of-the-rotation pitcher needs,” Boone said.

We're satisfied with his shoulder, and he'll be a tremendous asset to the staff."Trivino, 30, started the season as Oakland's closer and finished 1-6 with a 6.47 ERA and 10 saves in 39 appearances. He allowed 46 hits, 25 runs (23 earned), 14 walks, and 45 strikeouts in 32 innings.

From 2018-21, he has a 3.70 ERA with Oakland and 22 saves. Trivino is arbitration-eligible until 2024 and free agent in '25.Boone: "We've spoken about him forever." We think he's having a terrible year statistically, but that doesn't match up with who he is. He's been a terrific reliever on playoff-caliber teams, so we think he'll fit well in our bullpen.
